Grosse Pointe Remembers: Stories of the Community's Fallen

Register

For the May VetConnect Seminar at The War Memorial, join us as we welcome Lisa Lark.

The free seminar is planned for Thursday, May 7, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Neil Burgess Hayes was killed in action on May 22, 1970. From Grosse Pointe Farms, Hayes’ story will be shared at the seminar.

During this presentation, author and researcher Lisa A. Lark will discuss her work researching more than 180 men from the Grosse Pointes who gave their lives in military service. She will share details about the research process, tell the stories of some of the Pointes' fallen heroes, and explain how to access military records for genealogical purposes. A short Q & A will follow.

In partnership with Lark, The War Memorial is working to publish a book to honor more than 170 service members from the Grosse Pointes who gave their lives in military service—from the Civil War through Iraq and Afghanistan. This project ensures their names and legacies will live on as more than just inscriptions on a memorial.

Held bi-monthly, The War Memorial’s VetConnect Seminar Series provides veterans with a welcoming space to learn, connect, and find support. Launched in early 2024, this free program features speakers from respected veteran organizations and partners. Each seminar offers valuable insights and resources on topics that matter most to veterans, fostering both education and community.
