An Evening with David Syme
“David Syme is a consummate pianist — bold and forceful, subtle and tender, summoning whatever the notes call for, but injecting his own affinity, interpretation, and flexibility.”
David Syme is presented through the generosity of Valerie and Patrick Moran.
David Syme, noted American pianist, returns to the War Memorial for a special performance, featuring a program highlighting popular music alongside well-known classical favorites.
Syme, an American piano virtuoso living in Ireland, has had a long and colorful career. He has performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall, and in major venues in 17 European countries, Canada and Mexico. An alumnus of Juilliard and Indiana University, he was a protégé of the legendary Jorge Bolet.
A native Detroiter, he has been featured nine times as soloist with the Detroit Symphony. He has recorded two dozen CD's with such orchestras as the Royal Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, and the Czech National Symphony. He is best known in Ireland for his "Living-Room Concerts", held about 25 times a year in his West Cork home on the Beara Peninsula. This series has received international media acclaim. The Royal Irish Academy of Music granted David an honorary degree "for his contributions to the cultural life of Ireland."
He continues to appear throughout the US and Central Europe, particularly in the Czech Republic. In November of 2025, Syme appeared as a soloist in Nazareth, Israel, with the Galilee Chamber Symphony, playing Mozart's Concerto No. 23.
