Brought to you by the Grosse Pointe Artist Association:

One of the best ways to learn posthumously from a master painter is to paint a “master copy." In this workshop we will learn from John Singer Sargent's Study of an Egyptian Girl. You can see it at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Sargent went to Egypt in 1891 in search of source material for a mural commissioned by the Boston Public Library. Like many 19th-century European artists, he was drawn to the Egypt by its ancient history. For this study, Sargent returned to his academic training, carefully modeling the girls's facial structure and using a range of flesh tones, rather than relying on the swift, visible brushstrokes that characterize his society portraits.

Supplies

A $22.50 materials fee is included in the registration fee and covers all materials needed for the three classes including one 9inx12in canvas.
