Merry Memories 2025: Art & Essay Contest

How does your family celebrate the holidays?
What traditions related to your religion, ethnicity, or culture make this time of year so special?

Students in grades 1–5 from the Grosse Pointe Public School System and Harper Woods School District are invited to share their holiday traditions through art and writing in the Merry Memories Art & Essay Contest!

Winning students will:

  • Be featured in the Grosse Pointe News Thanksgiving Edition

  • Ride on the WCCCD-sponsored fire engine during the Grosse Pointe Santa Claus Parade on Friday, November 28

  • Have their work showcased in the Merry Memories exhibition in the Patriot Gallery at The War Memorial throughout the holiday season

  • Take part in the Community Tree Lighting at The War Memorial on Sunday, November 23

Submission Requirements:

  • Artwork must be on 8.5" x 11" or larger paper

  • Essays must be handwritten and 200 words or fewer

Timeline:

  • Wednesday, November 5: Entries due to your school principal

  • Monday, November 10: Winners announced by WCCCD

  • Friday, November 14: Winning pieces delivered to the Grosse Pointe Artists Association for display

  • Friday, January 9 (3–5 PM): Families pick up winning art and essays from the Patriot Gallery at The War Memorial
