Celebrate Summer in Metro-Detroit’s Backyard!

Our free outdoor summer series returns, this time with a patriotic theme that honors America’s 250th Anniversary. These diverse performances represent different aspects of the music that moves us, combining in a showcase that is uniquely American. Each movie is free, but registration is required.

Bring your blanket and chairs and we’ll provide the fun. We can’t wait to spend the best Wednesday nights of the year with you, here on the lake.

The Sandlot

Bring the whole family for a movie about the enduring power of childhood friendship against the backdrop of America’s favorite pastime.  Join Smalls, Squints, Ham, Yeah-Yeah, and Benny for an fun outdoor movie night.  We’ll have hot dogs, popcorn and cracker jack on the menu, as well as some fun outdoor games and pre-show activities. 


Your Evening

6pm - Grounds open for fun crafts and games before the movie begins!  

7pm - Movie begins

Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.  You are welcome to bring your own snacks, but Michigan law prohibits outside alcoholic beverages at War Memorial Events.

Please note: The Sandlot is MPAA rated PG - Parental Guidance Suggested. Some material may not be suitable for children. 

The event is free but registration is required.

This event is free and open to all. In the spirit of accessibility and community support, we’ve introduced a “Pay What You Wish” option. While there is no cost to attend, your contribution—of any amount—helps offset the expenses of this program and supports future community offerings at The War Memorial.
