A Low Country Shrimp Boil

Gather Around the Table

Long before shrimp boils became a beloved Southern tradition, they were a reason for people to come together. Friends, family, and neighbors would gather around a shared meal, linger over conversation, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being together.

On June 17, The War Memorial brings that tradition to the shores of Lake St. Clair for an evening of great food, live music, and lakeside hospitality.

Executive Chef Joe Paxton leads this family-style dining experience featuring shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes piled high and served the way a shrimp boil was meant to be enjoyed—shared around the table. Whether you're planning a date night, gathering a group of friends, or simply looking for a unique summer outing, this relaxed evening offers the perfect opportunity to slow down, connect, and savor the season.

As the sun begins to set, enjoy live music from Reeds & Steel, whose mix of acoustic favorites and laid-back rhythms provides the perfect soundtrack for an evening of great food, conversation, and waterfront views.

No formalities. No fuss. Just a table, a tradition, and a summer evening worth sharing.

A Southern Tradition of Gathering

A Low Country Shrimp Boil is more than a meal—it's an experience rooted in hospitality and community. Originating in the coastal regions of South Carolina and Georgia, shrimp boils bring people together around a shared table to enjoy fresh seafood, hearty sides, and lively conversation.

Served family-style, the meal encourages guests to slow down, pass the platters, strike up conversations, and enjoy the kind of communal dining experience that has made this tradition a favorite for generations.

At The War Memorial, we're pairing this Southern classic with live music, local craft brews, and one of the most beautiful lakefront settings in Southeast Michigan.
