HONOR
The Alger family’s vision began with service—and that value remains at the heart of The War Memorial. Honoring our veterans is more than tradition; it is a continuing promise to remember their courage and preserve the values of duty, gratitude, and unity that define who we are.
In 2025, thoughtful, year-long tributes commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War’s end—an enduring reflection of our community’s commitment to honor and remembrance.

ENRICH
The War Memorial was founded as a place where learning and connection could flourish. Through engaging classes, lectures, and free community events, we enrich lives and strengthen the bonds that bring people together.
Last year, we expanded free community programming and welcomed the joyful return of our Annual Tree Lighting celebration, a cherished tradition that continues to unite our community.
-

INSPIRE
From its beginning, The War Memorial has sought to uplift and inspire—inviting everyone to be part of something greater. Each performance, lecture, and family program sparks creativity, curiosity, and connection, helping all who visit feel a sense of belonging.
That same spirit inspired more than 40 partnerships in 2025, building bridges with organizations that share our mission to enrich and strengthen the community.

PRESERVE
The Alger family’s gift of their home created not just a gathering place, but a living legacy. Preserving the 1910 Alger House ensures that its stories, craftsmanship, and beauty continue to inspire future generations
In 2025, key preservation projects—including the restoration of the Library’s intricate ceiling—advanced our mission to safeguard this treasured home for all who enter its doors.
A Letter from our Board Director, Ret. Navy Master Chief, Salvador Martinez
As a retired United States Navy Master Chief, I have devoted my life to mission, service, and the people who stood alongside me. That commitment did not end with my military retirement. It simply found a new purpose here at home through community service and engagement. Nowhere is that calling more profoundly reflected than at The War Memorial, where I serve as a Board Director.
For more than seventy-five years, The War Memorial has stood as a place where veterans gather in fellowship, families create lasting memories, and neighbors come together in shared purpose. It is a beacon of remembrance and hope, reminding us of what can be achieved when we unite to serve something greater than ourselves. Each event, from children’s programs to community concerts, reflects the same sense of duty, teamwork, and gratitude that defined my years of service.
When I joined The War Memorial’s Board of Directors in 2024, I did so because I recognized the organization’s unwavering commitment to the same values that guided my career in uniform: honor, duty, and service to others. As both a board member and a proud monthly donor, I am honored to support programs that empower veterans, educate our youth, and strengthen the bonds that hold our community together.
As this year draws to a close, I invite you to join me in advancing this enduring mission. Please give generously to ensure that veterans continue to find support and connection, families have a place to come together, and future generations are inspired by the values that define our nation. Together we can preserve this legacy of service and continue to honor all who have answered the call to serve – both in uniform and within our community.
With sincere gratitude and respect,
Salvador Martinez

A Word From Our President
As the year draws to a close, I pause to reflect on what makes The War Memorial so special. The walls of this historic home hold more than history—they carry forward a legacy of service, gratitude, and the strength we find in community.
You can see that spirit everywhere on our campus. It shines through the names etched on our memorial plaques. It lives in the curiosity of a child discovering something new, in the neighbors who gather here to learn, connect, and grow, and in the impactful work of our community partners—all sustained by the generosity of those who believe in our mission.
Since 1949, The War Memorial has endured because of people like you—those who attend, volunteer, partner with us, and give so that others may experience moments of connection and inspiration here.
I invite you to come for a visit, attend an event, and bring a friend. Thank you for being part of The War Memorial's story and for helping its legacy continue to inspire.
