Medal of Honor Recipient to Provide Keynote Address at War Memorial Veterans Day Breakfast
GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Oct. 20, 2026 – For the second time in as many years, The War Memorial is pleased to bring a Medal of Honor recipient to its annual Veterans Day Breakfast.
Veterans and active-duty service members will gather at The War Memorial for Veterans Day Breakfast on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Doors to the event open at 8 a.m., with the program beginning at 9 a.m. The breakfast offers a space for those who bravely served America to experience camaraderie through shared stories and hospitality.
The keynote speaker this year is Medal of Honor recipient Terry Richardson. The Vietnam War veteran is one of only 65 living recipients of our nation’s highest recognition for valor in combat. Out of more than 40 million Americans who have served in the Armed Forces since the Civil War, only 3,536 have received the Medal of Honor. Today, Richardson, along with Jim McCloughan, are Michigan’s only living recipients.
“Veterans Day is an opportunity to pause, reflect and express our deepest gratitude to the men and women who have answered the call to serve our nation,” Maria Miller, president & CEO of The War Memorial, said. “We are honored to welcome Medal of Honor recipient Terry Richardson to The War Memorial and to give our veterans and active-duty service members a meaningful opportunity to gather in fellowship. His story of courage and sacrifice, along with the thoughtful contributions from our community’s students, musicians and supporters, reminds us that honoring our veterans is not just a tradition—it is a responsibility we proudly carry forward.”
The program includes thank-you notes handmade by local students for veterans, a performance of the Armed Forces Medley, keynote remarks, and a breakfast prepared by The War Memorial’s culinary team.
Returning this year is a coffee hour in the Community Room from 8 to 9 a.m., presented through the generosity of the Louisa St. Clair Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Veterans Day Breakfast is free for veterans to attend; veterans may bring one guest each at a cost of $20. For more information and to purchase tickets, please click here.
