Veterans Day Breakfast planned at The War Memorial, Medal of Honor recipient to speak
GROSSE POINTE FARMS, Oct. 22, 2025 – In commemoration of Veterans Day, The War Memorial will once again host a ceremonial breakfast featuring a keynote address by a distinguished American.
Veterans and active-duty service members will gather at The War Memorial for the annual Veterans Day Breakfast on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Doors to the event open at 8 a.m., with the program beginning at 9 a.m. The breakfast offers a space for those who bravely served America to experience camaraderie through shared stories and hospitality.
The keynote speaker this year is Medal of Honor recipient Jim McCloughan. The Vietnam War veteran is one of 61 living recipients of our nation’s highest recognition for valor in combat. Out of more than 40 million Americans who have served in the Armed Forces since the Civil War, only 3,528 have received the Medal of Honor. Today, McCloughan is Michigan’s only living recipient.
“Each Veterans Day, and throughout the year, The War Memorial is honored to open our doors to those who have served our nation with courage and dedication,” Maria Miller, president & CEO of The War Memorial, said. “Veterans Day is more than a moment of recognition—it is a commitment to remembering the sacrifices made for our freedom. This year, we are especially privileged to welcome Medal of Honor Recipient Jim McCloughan, whose extraordinary service exemplifies the very spirit of bravery and selflessness we honor.”
The program includes thank-you notes handmade by local students for veterans, an uplifting service-song medley, keynote remarks, and a breakfast prepared by The War Memorial’s culinary team.
Returning this year is a coffee hour in the Community Room from 8 to 9 a.m., presented through the generosity of the Louisa St. Clair Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Veterans Day Breakfast is free for veterans to attend; veterans may bring one guest each at a cost of $20. For more information and to purchase tickets, please click here.
