Memorial Week celebrations planned at The War Memorial
GROSSE POINTE FARMS May 1, 2025 – What do you get when you add the month of May and The War Memorial? Memorial Week.
Memorial Week returns to the nonprofit organization in Grosse Pointe Farms from May 21 to May 26 with renewed vigor and significance. Joining the standard events of the annual fundraising gala An Evening of Red, White & Blue and Memorial Day is the return of Our Community Salutes.
“This time is a meaningful opportunity for our community to come together in support of our mission in many ways,” Maria Miller, War Memorial President & CEO said. “Join us in celebrating the young recruits preparing to serve our nation, experience the unforgettable An Evening of Red, White & Blue fundraising gala, or honor our fallen heroes on Memorial Day as we reflect, remember, and grow stronger together through shared gratitude.”
Commencing on May 21, the illustrious series kicks off with An Evening of Red, White & Blue, featuring live music and dinner, plus fantastic new experiences. Funds raised will continue to aid restoring and preserving historic buildings and grounds at The War Memorial, specifically the 1910 Alger House.
After a short hiatus, we bring back Our Community Salutes when the Class of 2025 high school seniors from the Detroit area who have made the honorable decision to enlist in the United States Armed Forces are celebrated. The event is set for May 22, beginning with a resource fair and reception, followed by the recognition ceremony.
Concluding our Memorial Week events is the Memorial Day Service on May 26 when the community solemnly gathers for a poignant moment of remembrance for the courageous souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our cherished freedoms. The ceremony also includes musical tributes, remarks of remembrance and honor, and a recitation of the names of Grosse Pointe residents who lost their lives in service to our country.
