Gouache Painting w/ Cathy Hunton

July 15, 22, 29 and August 5.

Brought to you by the Grosse Pointe Artist Association:

In case you didn't know:

  • Gouache is highly pigmented and gives you amazing coverage. It's brighter and more opaque than watercolor, and less plasticy and thick than acrylic.

  • It dries quickly.

  • It's easy to cover up and fix mistakes.

Cathy has been using gouache for more than 30 years and says it is an excellent, forgiving and extremely versatile medium to use.

In this class, she will share:

• the foundations of gouache painting
• the art supplies to use with gouache
• translate the basics as the relate to gouache -- color theory, how to render, line, light, shadows, form and texture.

There will be demonstrations each session, as well, as personal attention.

Artists of all experience levels are welcome to the class. Students are asked to  bring a print of the image that you would like to paint.

Materials List:

•watercolor paper or illustration board to paint on, tracing paper and drawing paper
•gouache paints (not acrylic gouache)
•palette
•water spray bottle
•ariety of watercolor paint brushes
•paper towels
•water container
•pencil

If you are already using gouache, bring the materials you are accustomed to working with. If you are new to gouache, the following is a suggestion.
