Youth Dance Rules and Regulations

Purchasing a ticket indicates that you have read and will abide by the following.

How do I attend a dance?

  • Open to students in grades 6–8 who reside in Grosse Pointe or attend school in Grosse Pointe.
  • Register online! If you prefer to sign-up in person, visit The War Memorial in advance of the event date.
  • You must purchase a Youth Dance Ticket for $18 (plus a convenience fee). Be sure to register using the student's name – not the parent's name. At checkout, provide an email address to receive your ticket.
  • A ticket will be emailed to you after you complete the checkout process. The student brings either the e-ticket or a printed ticket to the dance for admittance.
  • Reservations for the next dance go on sale at midnight the day after a dance.

What do I need to get into the dance?

  • Your ticket (either a printed ticket, or an e-ticket on your smartphone).
  • If your name is not on the ticket list, you will not be allowed in the dance.

What time does the dance start and finish?

  • Doors open at 7:25 p.m. Please do not arrive early.
  • The dance ends at exactly 10:00 p.m.
  • Entrance to and/or dismissal from the dance at times other than the above will not be permitted without the authorization of the Youth Dance Coordinator.

What is the dress code?

  • The War Memorial adheres to The Grosse Pointe Public School System Dress Code. If you have any questions, please review this document. This dress code is in place to support a positive, safe, and respectful environment for all students. The Grosse Pointe Public Schools dress code allows for comfort, individuality and choice as long as such clothing and manner of dress does not interfere with and/or disrupt the educational process, endanger
health and safety, or violate the student code of conduct.
  • Footwear must be worn at all times.
  • Inappropriate dress may result in dismissal from the event, though every effort will be made to avoid this situation. If this happens, parents will be notified and required to pick up their child. Parents/Guardians are responsible for their child’s attire at all times.

What happens if I can't attend the dance after I've purchased my reservation?

  • No refunds or transfers will be given for any reason whatsoever.
  • Under no circumstance are you permitted to resell or give your space to someone else. There are no exceptions to this rule. Violation of this rule will mean that you will be denied admission to any remaining dances for the rest of the school year.

  • Unfortunately, since there are no refunds, there is no waitlist available.

Food, drink, and lost or stolen goods

  • No food or drink may be brought into the dance. The War Memorial provides refreshments in the Ballroom lobby. Alcohol, tobacco, drugs, toys, games, utensils, weapons, obscene language and disruptive behavior are not allowed. A student may be banned from attending any future dances at the discretion of the Youth Dance Coordinator and/or the Grosse Pointe Farms Department of Public Safety.
  • The War Memorial is not responsible for lost or stolen articles.
  • Any illegal activities will be directed to the police officers who have been hired to attend the dances.
