Born in 1923 in Tennessee, Newby is a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-1946. He is expected to attend the May 25 dedication ceremony for Les Braves II: At Water’s Edge at The War Memorial. Newby is one of six World War II veterans set to attend the ceremony.
U.S. Army Herald Trumpets to play for significant War Memorial ceremony
The Herald Trumpets will perform live May 25 at The War Memorial at a dedication ceremony for Les Braves II: At Water’s Edge. The ensemble is comprised of 14 trumpeters, three drummers, a conductor and announcer. The full 19-member group will play at The War Memorial.

In 2019, Anilore Banon was commissioned by The War Memorial to sculpt Les Braves II. The 50-foot-wide and 25-foot-tall art piece is the first of its kind in North America, similar to the original Les Braves in Normandy, France — located on Omaha Beach.
