About the film
“Jump Shot” tells the inspiring story of Kenny Sailors, credited with introducing the modern-day jump shot in basketball. Sailors dazzled college basketball fans in the early 1940s with his never-before-seen “leaping one-hander” while leading his Wyoming Cowboys to the Collegiate National Championship in Madison Square Garden. But after playing on several losing teams in an unstable, emerging league that would become the NBA, Kenny retreated into the Alaskan wilderness only to be forgotten by the sport he helped pioneer. Nearly 60 years later, a group of supporters have forced Sailors’ humble reemergence. The film follows their efforts to get him recognized in the Naismith Hall of Fame and to uncover the man behind the shot and why the sport he helped define never defined him.
