The Michigan State Capitol opened on January 1, 1879, to great acclaim. Michigan’s Capitol holds a special place in American history as one of the first state capitol buildings to be topped by a lofty cast iron dome. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1992. On our docent led tour, we will stop and see the Legislature session in progress. We will take a break and have lunch at Bravo Cucina Italiana, before heading to the Michigan History Center Museum to discover more history of our great state.

Junior League of Detroit Designers' Show House — The Fisher Mansion

The landmark Charles T. Fisher Mansion in the Historic Boston-Edison District will be the site of the 22nd Junior League of Detroit 2018 Designer's Show House.  Leading national and local interior designers, architects and landscape professionals will dramatically transform the rooms and gardens of this beautiful estate and the money raised will support the community programs of the Junior League Detroit. Homeowner Hill Harper, the award-winning television actor, welcomed the opportunity to partner with Junior League Detroit and Aspire Design and Home Magazine to support this important fundraising project. 

$75 per person

Color Cruise and Island Festival in Grand Ledge

Each year the annual event celebrates with an unmatched combination of nature's glories and mid-Michigan good times in October.  The towering hardwood trees compete to see which can most beautifully reflect its colors on the river. A beautiful riverboat takes admirers up and down the river, providing a relaxing slice of history and an unmatched view of historic 60-foot sandstone ledges. Artisans, displays, music and food are plenty at this 3-day festival.

Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History

Founded in 1965, the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History has, for over half a century, been a leading institution dedicated to the African American experience. The Wright Museum houses over 35,000 artifacts and archival materials and is home to the Blanche Coggin Underground Railroad Collection, Harriet Tubman Museum Collection, Coleman A. Young collections and the Sheffield Collection, a repository of documents of the labor movement in Detroit. Lunch at Hopcat Detroit after our museum visit and docent tour.
