Starting as Grosse Pointe Cable and later through Comcast, The Grosse
Pointe War Memorial has offered community television for more than two
decades to Comcast subscribers in the cities of Grosse Pointe Park,
Grosse Pointe City, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Woods, Grosse
Pointe Shores and Harper Woods. We estimate the penetration rate
to be 17,000 homes.
Previously known as Community Television Services, the station began an
intense campaign in the Fall of 2000 to revamp its look and lineup by
promoting itself as WMTV with new sets, a new logo and new shows.
Equipment was purchased enabling WMTV to be on the air 24-hours and to
expand its technical capabilities. WMTV found help from Post
Newsweek station, WDIV who donated sets, props and accessories. Their
engineers and cameramen visited the studio and offered suggestions on
lighting, camera angles and editing techniques.
There are now 14 30-minute programs from talk to cooking with target
audiences crossing every age group. Show hosts volunteer their
time and on-air talent. The shows are produced in the Grosse
Pointe War Memorial's television studio by a full-time operations
manager and two full-time video
production assistants.
Through consistent self-evaluation, WMTV continues its effort to be on
the cutting edge of providing quality local origination programming to
the communities of Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods.
